Beginnings

I have launched this site to help keep me accountable to my goals. Now the real work starts.

Aural skills first - harmonic dictation, melodic dictation, intervals, atonal dictation. All the things that get rusty when you step away for a few years. I need to sharpen those once more.

The first exam in the LRCM series is Renaissance and Baroque Counterpoint. Having already completed highlevel exams in Baroque counterpoint, I will instead turn the clock back and tackle Renaissance counterpoint first. It is going to be quite different. I have not worked in this style; however, I am very familiar with species counterpoint, so with the help of my texts and scores I should be able to get it under my belt. Baroque can wait a bit while I get my footing.

Somewhere in the middle of all this, I need to start composing. That is the whole point after all.
